This series was about Joanne Braithwaite (Janet Eilber), a first year teacher at a Southern California high school, a group of students attending the school, and the typical situations that they face. Converse All Stars proliferate throughout the episodes, both on guys and girls. But chucks are displayed most often and most impressively by Chris Henson (Darren Dalton), a student who dropped out between his junior and senior years and has returned to school in order to graduate. wearing them in very short sequences.

Chris is shown in one episode sitting on the floor by his locker with his legs extended and his high black Chuck Taylors fully shown below his jeans. In another episode, there are two sequences with real good chucks shots, one while he is discussing his literature critique with teacher Joanne Braithwaite and the other while explaining his absence from school with Dale Troutman (K.C. Martel). In each sequence, Chris' high black chucks are shown for a significant length of time. In the same episode, another student is shown wearing high black chucks.

A third character, Neil "Trout" Troutman (David Packer) wears them from time to time and his high black chucks are shown hanging in his locker. Even though "Trout" is a frequent chucks wearer, he is only shown wearing them in very short sequences.
