Two teens returning home from college are nearly run off the road by a maniac in a beat-up truck and later spot him shoving what appears to be a body down a sewer pipe. When they stop to investigate, they discover that the grisly reality at the bottom of that pipe is far worse than what they suspected, and that they are now the targets of an evil force more unspeakable and unstoppable than they could have ever imagined. This paean to "sex, bugs, and rock 'n' roll" is based on an MTV short about a colony of wise-cracking, singing cockroaches who live in a run down apartment in New York City. When Joe, a naive young single guy from Iowa trying to make his way in New York City rents the apartment, his sloppy life style fits right in and soon the cockroaches try to help him out by meddling in his life. Jason Robards and Max Pomeranc (who plays Journey) are outstanding in this story of a restless mom who deserts her children and leaves them to be raised by their grandparents on the family farm. Through his love of photography, the grandfather helps Journey recover from the confusion and emptiness that he is experiencing, and discover the true meaning of what a family is.
