I love my high tops
My Converse All Stars
My Chuck Taylors
Blue-gray-white plaid canvas
Connected to used-to-be-white rubber
(completely animal-safe of course).

A fine network of ball-point pen etchings
Web out across the shoes
Names of favorite bands
Patterns of criss-crosses and stripes
Grace my foot coverings.

I fear the day they will become
Too old to be worn but
Until then God I love them.
