BTS is a seven-member South Korean boy band that debuted in 2013 for Big Hit Entertainment. The septet—composed of Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook— has become a global phenomenon in that time, and some have even gone as far to say that they are this generation’s version of The Beatles. They even have their own version of Beatlemania with their very passionate “stans”. BTS co-writes and co-produces much of their own music, and while originally a hip hop group, their style has evolved to include a wide range of genres. Their lyrics are often personal and touch on the themes of mental health and the troubles of school-age youth. The group has released several albums and performed on several world tours. The track “Dynamite” was released on August 21, 2020, and is the band's first song fully recorded in English.
Dynamite ice cream!
“Dynamite” is a disco-influenced pop song with elements of funk, soul and bubblegum pop. The music for the song includes drums, percussion, bass guitar, synth bass, synthesizers, pads, piano, electric guitars, horns and strings. The upbeat production also consists of snaps, claps, and a funky bassline. This paired with BTS’s vocal harmonies create a dynamic and infectious sound.
Multiple members of BTS wear chucks in this video.
The music video opens showing the band in pastel-colored clothes with a purple sunset sky behind them. They then split up and each member heads into their own setting. These settings include an attic bedroom, a record shop, a fast food stop, a donut shop, an ice cream truck, and a basketball court. The band reconvenes in front of a giant “Disco” sign and shows off their impressive choreography, and here we see that multiple members are wearing pastel chucks. When the whole group is together it’s easy to see how they’ve taken over the world in such a short time. They just have IT, that intrinsic star quality that just makes an act bigger than all the rest. Their dancing is impeccable, their vocals are pristine, and they have their own distinct look as individuals and together. This music video has over 1.1 billion views which just shows the rarified stardom BTS is in right now.
Pastels for days!
