“Every Summertime” by NIKI

The song is a very laidback pop song that features a sample of “In The Summertime” by Mungo Jerry. In it, NIKI recounts the summertime joys of her young adulthood. The song begins when she and her crush were both 18 and finishes when they’re 25. She talks about him meeting her dad for the first time and missing church with his sister. On the chorus, she sings about how she’d love to get inside his mind, and how she falls in love every summertime. The key is though, that with him, every day is summertime.

The video takes place in an Asian supermarket, continuing the film’s themes of celebrating Asian culture. NIKI arrives and takes the cashier’s microphone to perform the song for the whole store. The video also follows a young boy who is wandering the store, while wearing a pair of kid’s chucks. He spends his time looking at crabs and fish, while security guards use a drone to check in on all the customers. This gives us some really cool shots of the store and all the shoppers in it. The boy eventually ends up in the chip aisle and eyes some shrimp crackers. Two older kids tell him to steal the bag, and after some back and forth he tries to. However, the drone soon chases him until he jumps on the cart of two young women and rides away. The video is very chill which fits well the vibes of the song, NIKI shines while he performs, and really has some amazing star power.
