Elijah Woods X Jamie Fine was a Canadian pop music duo that consisted of songwriter and producer Elijah Woods and singer-songwriter Jamie Fine. The duo was the winning group on the first season of the Canadian reality music competition, The Launch. They then had a good run of successful releases including the single “Ain't Easy”, which became certified Double Platinum by Music Canada and topped the national Adult Contemporary chart. They easily became the best-selling artists of the show, releasing another three gold-certified singles and receiving several awards and nominations, including Best New Canadian Artist or Group at the 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs. However, despite all this success, the pair went their separate ways in 2020 to explore singles careers and new opportunities. “first night” is one of the first singles Elijah Woods released post-breakup that was from his EP look what i made. It was released on Oct 28th, 2021, and features vocals from Canadian pop singer JESSIA.

This song is all about the very first night you met someone special. We’re talking “the one” kind of special, and this is the kind of night you will replay over and over again. Both Elijah and JESSIA recall how special the night was, and both lament on the circumstances that are keeping them from being together now. It is a classic tragic story of longing and wondering what could be.

The music video begins with Elijah standing against a truck that is parked in a city. He hops in the bed of the truck as the song starts and the truck heads into the country. Once there, a bed of flowers appears under Elijah in the truck, and we see that he is wearing light blue high top chucks as part of an all blue outfit. He sings the first verse and chorus before the camera shows that JESSIA is the one driving. The camera work in the video picks up once JESSIA enters. Towards the end, there are a lot of cool shots that play with the blocking of Elijah and JESSIA, moving between them often. The video ends with the pair performing under the stars and a single streetlight by the truck, before riding off into the night in the back of the truck bed. The video does a good job of capturing the vibe of that first night with someone that you’ll never forget, and the cool visuals make for a video you may not forget as well.
