Hip-hop has come a long way from its early beginnings in the basements of the Bronx. Now over 50 years later, the genre has evolved at a rate never seen before in music. Its influence has spread across the globe and into every other genre as well. Combined with the technology of today and social media finding talent wherever, there have never been more cases of finding great rappers in the far-flung corners of the globe. Hanumankind is a rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor from Kerala, India. Taking influence from Southern rappers like Three 6 Mafia, Project Pat, UGK, and DJ Screw after living in Houston, he has developed his own style. His song “Big Dawgs” is his biggest hit, gaining worldwide fame after going viral on TikTok. The track was released on July 9, 2024, with a music video, and it peaked at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Standing on business in classic black high top chucks.
The track is a classic braggadocious rap that really introduces Hanumankind in a big way. The beat punches you in the face with its booming bass line and when combined with Hanumankind’s lyrics, it gives you the feeling of being pushed around. Hanumankind is a natural rapper and he has a very pronounced swagger and an emotive voice in his verses.
Rolling in the cage with big dogs.
The music video opens outside of a “well of death” carnival attraction. The camera flies into the middle of the action where Hanumankind is standing in his black high top chucks. He kicks into the song as motorcycles whizz by against the walls. The camera shakes with the beat and follows Hanumankind as he hangs out of the window of one of the stunt cars. This was a real stunt that he actually participated in, which reportedly caused the rapper to experience motion sickness. These death-defying stunts give a chaotic, kinetic energy to the video that really fits in with the hard, thumping beat. The beat combined with the camera motions and speeding cars in an enclosed space makes it feel like you’re getting beat up watching this. When the song winds down, the video switches to Hanumankind chilling with the drivers, relaxing us as the danger has passed. This is a great video and it is easy to see why it went viral!
Nothing but big steppers here.
