The West Coast has produced plenty of great music over the years. From hip-hop to R&B, Rock to Pop, and everything in between, the West Coast has long been the best coast for music. New artists are always adding to that rich history and one that has been steadily rising in the last five years. Destiny Rogers is a 25-year-old American singer from Lodi, California who has been growing as an artist over the past few years. Inspired by artists like Justin Bieber, H.E.R., Kehlani, and Billie Eilish, Rogers has found success bringing her own history to her music. Her song “West Like” was released in 2021 and serves as a tribute to her roots.

The song has a G-Funk-inspired beat that is very reminiscent of the sounds of Roger Troutman and later Dr. Dre. Destiny has a very effortless and natural voice that really vibes with the beat and the generally laid-back attitude the West Coast is known for. Her vocals also pair really well with Kalan’s and when they start to harmonize in the second half of the song, you feel like it’s a throwback to 90’s R&B.

The music video begins with Destiny getting out of her bed and starting her day. She heads out of her house to meet up with Kalan. They both get some jeers from her family that’s chilling on the porch, but they hop on their bikes and start riding down an LA street. Kalan is wearing black Comme des Garçons chucks and eventually as the video goes on, Destiny also switches into a pair of classic black chucks. Chucks are always a must if you are going to do a video celebrating the West Coast so there’s no surprise in seeing them here. Destiny and Jalon end up at a party in the neighborhood, then eventually end up back on the streets with some lowriders. It’s a simple video that celebrates West Coast culture (specifically LA) in a straightforward way.
