Kid Cudi is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, actor, and fashion designer from Cleveland, Ohio. He broke into mainstream music in a massive way in 2009 with his debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day, which went quadruple Platinum and is considered one of the greatest albums of all time. Since then, he has continued to make incredible music, but lately he has been doing a lot of acting, such as in the films Don’t Look Up, X, and Happy Gilmore 2. The song “Grave” is the second single from Cudi’s latest album, Free. The track was released on July 12th, 2025, with the music video coming out two days prior.
There ain’t no grave, can hold my body down”.
This song is about Cudi’s troubled life and his struggles that led him to nearly dying young. He likens this to running toward the grave, hence the title of the song. Like a cat with nine lives, Cudi suggests he came close to death multiple times but kept on surviving. He struggled, but eventually he stopped running toward the grave and turned his life around.

The music video begins with Cudi standing in what looks like an old west cemetery. We then cut to him being buried alive in reverse, as everyone in the video moves in reverse besides Cudi. He rises from the grave and leaves the cemetery. Cudi is wearing black chucks, jeans, and a black leather jacket throughout the video. He returns to the city, where it looks like a riot is happening, again in reverse. Cudi then arrives in a seedy bathroom, where a younger version of himself has a breakdown. We see flashbacks of tragedy in Cudi’s life, and this shows that it has all led to this moment in the bathroom, which will lead to him being in the grave. However, because Cudi walks backwards from that moment, it fits in with the song’s narrative about avoiding the grave and no longer running towards it. It’s a visually interesting video, and the image of Cudi standing in the cemetery wearing chucks has a lot of aura.
