Alexander Warren Hughes is an American singer-songwriter who originally began his career as a comedy YouTuber. Up until about two years ago, he was regularly posting the standard reaction, lifestyle, and clickbait YouTube slop that a lot of creators are known for these days. Then, in a rather abrupt 180, he began releasing serious music that doesn’t have much of a connection to his previous content. Now two years later, he is the unlikely current face of pop music. His song “Ordinary” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for ten weeks over the 2025 summer, and was only dethroned by the song “Golden” by Huntrix. This comes after the success of hits like “Before You Leave Me", "Save You a Seat", and "Carry You Home", and now Warren is the biggest male pop star in the US despite not being a household name. The song “Eternity” is the fourth single from his debut studio album, You'll Be Alright, Kid, and was released on July 18th, 2025.

Alex Warren wears black low top chucks in this music video.
This is a song about grief and the longing for someone who isn't there anymore. Warren wrote this song in response to his own personal grief from the deaths of both of his parents. His father died of cancer when he was nine, and his mother passed away due to alcohol-related issues. With his deep baritone, the grief is palpable in his voice, and you feel the emotional weight behind the lyrics. This song has suffered a fate that many songs deal with, and that is audience misinterpretation. Many have interpreted this song as romantic despite Warren saying the opposite. This follows other songs like Lewis Capaldi's "Someone You Loved" and Jeff Buckley’s “Hallelujah” that have been misinterpreted by listeners into something other than what the author intended.

Warren and the orchestra performing “Eternity”.
This music video is specifically for the orchestral version of the song and is sponsored by Bose and NME. It starts with a sit-down with Warren as he talks about his writing process and what the song means to him. He is wearing the black low top chucks he often wears in his video, and he chose the venue to celebrate his hometown of Nashville. It can be assumed that the chucks he wears share that same personal connection. After the sit-down, Alex performs the song with the orchestra with some dramatic lighting and camera movements. The performance is pretty straightforward, but the addition of the orchestra adds more weight to an already emotionally weighty song.

This is what it feels like when you have multiple song ideas floating in your head.
