Lizzy McAlpine is a singer-songwriter from the suburbs of Philadelphia who has created quite a career for herself over the last five years. McAlpine studied songwriting at Berklee College of Music in Boston, but left before her junior year to pursue music full-time during the COVID-19 pandemic. She found success very quickly, releasing her debut album, Give Me a Minute, in August 2020. A year later, she made her late-night debut on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE! And followed that up with an appearance on NPR’s Tiny Desk in 2022. Through it all, she’s grown and maintained a large following online through TikTok. Her song “Spring Into Summer” is a bonus track off her third studio album, Older, and was released on October 4th, 2024.

This song comes from what was supposed to be a hiatus for Lizzy. After the initial release of Older, she stated she didn’t think she would write again in 2024. She found herself writing more often due to some big changes in her life, which resulted in the creation of this song. One of the main themes of the main themes from Older is her always running back to her ex, and their never-ending tie to each other. She refers to this as a “cycle”, which is similar to the cycle of the seasons. She also expands on her regrets from this relationship, a common confession subject on the album.

Lizzy sheepishly reveals this brand-new song.
This music video is a live performance that was filmed at the MGM Music Hall inside historic Fenway Park in Boston, and is the actual debut of the song. Lizzy is onstage in a white tank, blue jeans, and navy blue high top chucks, along with her band, on a set that appears to be modeled after a home studio. The intimate and relaxed stage fits in with Lizzy’s outfit, and is juxtaposed with the packed 5,000-seat venue. She starts off by introducing the song, stating that she finished it an hour before the show, and that she and the band decided to play it at the last minute. She strums an acoustic guitar throughout the performance, remaining seated as the song builds and builds. The light setup above the stage gives a sort of halo effect on the wide shots, which works well with Lizzy’s angelic vocals. This performance harkens back to classic MTV Unplugged performances, with the talking segment combined with the vocals making the gig feel a lot more intimate than the venue would have you believe.

The lighting rig creates a halo effect of Lizzy and the band.
