After two years away, Olivia Rodrigo is back with all-new music. Her long-rumored third album is finally on the horizon, and to the surprise of many, it ditches the four-letter naming convention and is titled You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. The first single for this album was released on April 17th, 2026, and is titled “drop dead”. It was accompanied by a wonderful music video that was shot at the Palace of Versailles, and in the follow-up to its release, Olivia also dropped an acoustic version of the song with a separate music video.
Guitarist Arianna Powell joins Olivia for this performance and wears blue chucks.
“drop dead” marks a pretty big turn in Olivia’s musical style and also gives us a pretty good preview of what her new album is going to sound like. The song is very much in the synth-pop vein as opposed to the tracks from Guts and Sour, which were very pop-punk in style. The synths pulse throughout the song, which gives this vibe of your heart racing, while the airy strings of the violin and viola invoke the feeling of being on cloud nine. The strings also harken back to the period of French antiquity at Versailles and the golden age of Louis Treize. The acoustic version here removes the instrumentation and replaces it with only an acoustic guitar. While Olivia sounds great on the original track, she sounds incredible and ethereal here. This song is another case of Olivia writing a song that is very difficult to perform, and her live performances have suffered somewhat because of it, but here she is perfectly on point and makes this an even better version of the song.

The music video for this is very simple and to the point, like an acoustic music video. Filmed in a studio, Olivia sits on a stool beside her guitarist, Arianna Powell, who is wearing low-top blue chucks for the whole performance. Olivia has stated in interviews that she feels she is going through a more “girly” phase, wearing lots of pink, dresses, and flowy garments. This look plays into the new sound for this album, with her angelic vocals here. The camera goes back and forth between a heavy focus on Olivia and a wider frame that features Powell. This video may be simple, but the focus here is on Olivia and her incredible performance.
