KATSEYE is a K-Pop girl group composed of six members: Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Manon Bannerman, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza, and Yoonchae Jeung. The group is a collaboration between Hybe and Geffen Records, and was formed through the 2023 reality competition series Dream Academy. The goal of the competition was to create a “global girl group”, and the final roster was composed of members from the Philippines, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United States. KATSEYE debuted in June 2024 with the aptly titled single “Debut”, followed by their breakthrough single, “Touch”. Their latest single is “PINKY UP”, and was released on April 9th, 2026.

“PINKY UP” continues KATSEYE’s musical trend of hyperpop with fragmented and chaotic lyrics that started with 2025’s “Gnarly”. That song completely changed the group’s sound and style, and their music has been incredibly polarizing ever since. Many fans have criticized this sound for being a sonic mess with lyrics that are nonsensical, “TikTok slop”. It’s a far cry from the first few singles, which were stylistically much more traditional R&B and Pop. While the group should be commended for trying a new sound so soon into their career, this experiment has clearly run its course, and in the eyes of the general public, unfortunately, turned them into a joke.

This music video was filmed for Studio Choom, a South Korean YouTube channel known for its high-quality K-Pop dance performances filmed in professional studio settings, with artistic lighting, and in 4K resolution. All the major K-Pop acts film these, and KATSEYE’s was released on May 4th, 2026. The video sees the girls performing in a beautifully lit, blank studio. They are wearing their signature, Y2K-inspired clothing, with the leader of the group, Sophia, wearing the rare Vaquera x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star XXXHi Slouch Wedge in black. These look great with the shorts that she is wearing and fit in with the group's maximalist look. You can say what you want about the group’s music choices and the choreography they’ve been given, but you can’t deny that when these girls perform, they give their all and make the most of what they’re given. They are extremely talented and are so in sync with each other that it masks any other artistic issues they may be facing, and for fans is just more proof that their labels need to give them better material.
These chucks really match the group’s style.
