The American artist mgk has had a varied career over the last fifteen years. He started out as a rapper signed to Bad Boy Records, and for ten years wandered around the fringes of the hip-hop scene. Around 2020, he, like many other white “rappers” of his ilk, ditched rap for pop music, and ever since, he’s been releasing pop punk records. His latest album, Lost Americana, focused a lot on his newer pop punk sound with just a few elements of his hip-hop origins. Wiz Khalifa has, at this point, had a legendary career, going from Pittsburgh unknown to superstar. These two teamed up once before, back in 2013, and now they have reunited to share a summer-ready party starter entitled “girl next door.” The song was released on May 12th, 2026, just as the Pittsburgh rapper gears up to join mgk on the second North American leg of his lost americana tour.

Wiz Khalifa and mgk both wear high top chucks in this video.
This song is a throwback to those early 2010’s hits that these two had when they were both younger. They are trying to capture the laid back vibes of Wiz’s early music, and you can tell he still has it. They even reference this at the end of the song where mgk says, “Yeah, Wiz, let's take ’em back to the blog-era one time”. The song is about young love and pretty standard lyrically, but it is nice to hear this style of song again after so long.

Wiz is not really known for his “gainz”.
The music video begins with two young women moving into the house next door to Wiz and mgk. Their house is exactly the kind of house most twenty-something-year-old men would live in (despite both of them being nearly forty): there’s barely any furniture besides the outdoor weight-lifting bench, their mail box is overflowing, and their TV is perched on a CD rack. Wiz and mgk are both wearing chucks, which fits with their laid-back energy and the 2010’s blog boy look they’re going for and referencing in the song. They spend the video trying to impress the girls by working out on the lawn, doing chores, playing with a mean cat, and swimming in a kiddie pool. None of this works, so the two resolve to simply talk to them, which goes well until they find out that the two girls are lesbians and together. They all resolve to be friends, and the video ends with a cameo from comedian Trevor Wallace. The music video has good vibes and really does harken back to the blog era of music videos.
