Alexander Warren Hughes is an American singer-songwriter who originally began his career as a comedy YouTuber. Up until about two years ago, he was regularly posting the standard reaction, lifestyle, and clickbait YouTube slop that a lot of creators are known for these days. Then, in a rather abrupt 180, he began releasing serious music that doesn’t have much of a connection to his previous content. Now, two years later, he is the unlikely current face of pop music. His song “Ordinary” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for ten weeks over the 2025 summer and was only dethroned by the song “Golden” by Huntrix. This comes after the success of hits like “Before You Leave Me", "Save You a Seat", and "Carry You Home", and now Warren is the biggest male pop star in the US despite not being a household name. The song “PASSENGER” is the third single off Warren’s upcoming second studio album, Wildchild. The song debuted on June 5th, 2026, with an accompanying music video.

Alex Warren wears red chucks in this music video.
This track focuses on the helplessness one feels when in a one-sided relationship. Alex uses the metaphor of being in the passenger seat to express his lack of control in the relationship. The lyrics suggest that his partner’s ambitions are taking priority over his own needs and dreams. He longs for reassurance, commitment, and mutual affection, but he gets nothing from the other side of the relationship. He even knows there is an “elephant in the room”, but rather than address it, he will just make room for it. He is a powerless passenger who is unable to stop the car or change directions.

Alex will do anything to get her attention.
The music video opens with Alex Warren playing with his band in front of his girlfriend, who is on her phone and couldn’t seem to care less. Alex is wearing red chucks that really pop against the general beige look of the room he’s in and the outfit he is wearing. In fact, this video uses red as a standout color multiple times, such as when Alex gets sawed in half to get his girlfriend's attention, one of many stunts he pulls. Eventually, the “elephant in the room” makes an appearance before Alex destroys the room in a last-ditch effort. However, she still ignores him and instead chooses the magician who sawed him in half. Alex takes it well, all things considered, and moves on by playing music with his band. This music video combines Warren’s comedic style with his emotional music in a fun way that has been present throughout the lead-up to his sophomore album.

“Address me”.
